Work on Schooley’s Mountain

In it's Schooley's Mountain water system, the MUA has undertaken a program for:

  • Finding and developing new water sources,
  • Identifying water storage tank sites,
  • Installing new reinforcement piping, and
  • Intensified leak detection & repair.

Each of these measures is being undertaken to provide additional water and improved service at times of peak water use demand. Using a geologic exploration system know as Vertical Electronic Surveying (VES), we have found several sites that hold the promise of giving us additional wells in the difficult granite bedrock of Schooley’s Mountain. Drilling of test wells is anticipated by the end of the summer.

We have also been narrowing down the areas that would be best suited to locate a new storage tank. The tank would provide additional stored water volume to buffer the fluctuations in daily flow as needed to serve all area customers. With added piping in selected areas, we will be able to deliver higher quantities of water at better pressure during peak use times.Leak detection on individual house service lines is a time consuming procedure that can be beneficial in saving water. Anyone knowing of a suspicious wet area or who hears water running in their house when there is no water being used should call the MUA.
